Newindiefilm.com is the trading name of David Freedman Productions. I am a London based line producer and production manager working freelance with production companies and directors, predominantly in the UK, to advise and support on all aspects of filmmaking, particularly physical production, from script to screen, and manage their productions from development through prep and shoot, and if required through post to delivery. I diligently work to ensure films are produced on schedule and budget, in accordance with the director's vision and to the highest production value. Whether it's a 1-day Commercial, 2-day Short, 3-week Feature or 4-month Series, I can help.
I’m versatile and reliable, with huge experience of producing, production management and assistant directing at all budget levels. Much of my experience has been in features, which I regularly schedule and budget. I studied film and practical filmmaking at London Met and trained in production management at the National Film and Television School, where I was a Sargent-Disc scholar. I am very experienced at lower budget levels where I have produced, production managed or first-assistant directed a dozen features, including Homeless Ashes (Dir. Marc Zammit), an award-winning drama which had a market screening at Cannes and theatrical release with Everyman Cinemas. Under the Radar (Dir. Simon Frith), a bio doc about actor Mike Edmonds (Time Bandits) features interviews with Terry Gilliam and Michael Palin and was selected for Film London Breakthrough Screenings. Both films premiered at Raindance 2019
In 2019 I was selected for the BFI Network x BAFTA Crew talent development programme and in 2022, as part of the Connect initiative, I was invited to become a BAFTA member. I have worked on numerous features and shorts, both fiction and documentaries, as well as TV, commercials, music videos and corporate work in the UK and internationally. Many of the features and shorts I've worked on have gone on to enjoy success at festivals, been multi-award winners and signed distribution deals with established distributors, including in LA.
I’ve also had much experience on high-end productions, putting my production background to good use during the pandemic as one of the first people in the UK to complete Screen Skills and First Option courses on managing Covid-19 risks on productions and went on to develop extensive experience in prepping and filming with Covid Protocols. I was a qualified Covid Supervisor for The Walt Disney Studios, including on Pinocchio (Dir. Robert Zemeckis) starring Tom Hanks, and seconded to Lucasfilm for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (Dir. James Mangold), starring Harrison Ford, as well as other Disney shows. I worked between production office and set every day on these productions, leading a team of secretaries and runners, and at times multiple units. My work for Disney regularly involved liaising with colleagues and teams from different creative departments and other productions including cast, crew & execs, as well as HR, legal, finance & Accounting, plus external vendors and stakeholders from Pinewood to Burbank. Post-pandemic I returned to my first love in the industry - production.
Notable work includes production managing £1M Sci-fi horror feature The Seed (Dir. Sam Walker) in Malta for Camelot Films / Hardman Pictures, backed by Ingenious Media and Lipsync Post, bonded by Film Finances and distributed by Shudder. More recently I production managed AI Horror feature Jitters (Marc Zammit) for Aptitude Films and distributed by Trinity Content Partners. Plus PM'd documentary feature Conscious (Dir Suki Chan), a feature doc about consciousness and Alzheimer’s, funded by BFI Doc Society, Screen Scotland and the Sundance Institute, that premiered at CPH:DOX. In just over a decade I have built up a reputation as an accomplished production manager and line producer. I also continue to work as an assistant director and am happy to multitask roles on small productions, if feasible. I'm also an Associate Lecturer teaching MA & BA filmmaking students at London Met & UCA.
